HOW DO I KNOW IF YOU’RE THE RIGHT THERAPIST FOR ME?
The therapeutic relationship has been proven to be a fundamental factor in therapy’s success; it is important for you to feel comfortable with me. The first consultation is a chance for you to learn more about my counselling approach, to decide for yourself if you’re comfortable with it, and to ask whatever questions you may have. We will talk about your unique situation and desired outcomes, and, together, get clearer about how I may best support you to reach them. I also offer a free ten-minute phone consultation so you can get a sense of who I am and how you feel.
HOW LONG WILL THERAPY TAKE?
That’s a great question. I wish I could give you an easy answer. Therapy is a process and each person and their situation is different and unique. It will depend on the issues you are facing, the depth you are prepared to work at and the arrangements we will make accordingly. I will have a better sense of that when we meet and I have a clearer understanding of your needs. As the decisions are always steered by you, and therapy taken safely at your own pace, we will periodically discuss this as you progress.
You may have a particular issue you wish to address in 4 to 12 sessions or may be looking for longer term support around a more complex or pervasive situation. You may decide to take a break and return when you need or want. We always agree on a treatment plan to suit your requirements.
I can assure you it will take (with my full support the entire time) as long as you could possibly want, but not as long as you might fear!
ARE YOU GOING TO TELL ME WHAT TO DO?
While some therapists or coaches will tell you what to do, I won’t. I will help you sort through the options, making suggestions when appropriate, and help you with whatever decision you make. My goal is to help you change your life for the better and to assist you to become your own self-healer, helper and motivator. I can help you to uncover the answers you already hold inside you. Unearth the strengths that you possess and build on them. You deserve to live to your full potential, learning to access and trust your own inner wisdom.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I’LL SUCCEED?
I believe that if you commit to participating in this process to your best ability you are guaranteed to make positive changes. You can let go of troublesome patterns or past hurts. The fact that you are reading this is evidence that there is hope. You already know that things can change. You’ll learn more about who you are, what your needs are and what makes you happy. You can enhance your relationships, make clearer decisions that really fit for you and you can be happy with. You can set expansive goals and delight yourself with how you can achieve them.
WHAT IF I HAVE A PROBLEM IN MY RELATIONSHIP AND MY PARTNER DOESN’T WANT TO COME FOR COUPLES COUNSELLING?
Although it is preferable to have both of you in the couples therapy session, if your partner is reluctant to come for counselling at the moment you can still attend on your own. We can still work effectively on the concerns you have in your relationship even if your partner never attends. You can gain greater awareness of your needs and responsibilities, learn better ways of communicating and increase the potential for positive results in your relationship and in your life.
HOW MAY I QUALIFY FOR A REBATE?
Medicare presently does not provide any cover or subsidy for Psychotherapy or Counselling. However, some private medical insurance companies do.
I have Medibank Private Provider status for Psychotherapy & Counselling. I am also covered by a variety of private health funds for Hypnotherapy, including BUPA, MBF, NRMA and Australian Unity Health.
Please check with your fund to learn what rebate you are entitled to, as eligibility varies according to your plan.
